General information

The Maplewood Makos is a summer seasonal competitive swim team for children ages 6 – 18, who are members of the pool.
 
Registration for the team is $125 per swimmer. Cost includes a team shirt, competitive bathing cap, and swim meet fees.

Open to Maplewood pool members only.

Requirements

Please note that as a competitive swim team, children are expected to be strong and skilled swimmers in order to qualify and compete.  This is not an opportunity for children to take swim lessons!  The stroke requirements for each age group are as follows:

Team requirements:

• Ages 8 & under: must be able to swim 2 different strokes 25 yards each*
• Ages 9 & 10: swim 3 different strokes 25 yards each*
• Ages 11 & over: must be able to swim all 4 competitive strokes (free, back, breast and fly) for 25 yards each

We often are asked if everyone makes the Makos Swim Team.

Not everyone who tries out makes the team; safety is our primary concern, so if we feel as though someone is not a strong enough swimmer to be in the pool in the practice setting, they will not make the team. We are a competitive team, so cuts do have to be made to ensure that everyone on the team is able to not only swim for survival, but swim at a competitive level. Everyone on the team does get to swim in meets.

Sunday, 6/2 from 9am – 11:30am
at Maplewood Community Pool
